Caridad Center Annual Gala
Exceeds All Expectations

The “Wrap Up Your Holiday Wishes” Caridad Center gala shattered all previous records by raising more than $250,000 to benefit services provided through the Boynton Beach nonprofit medical clinic.
The elegant and highly successful event held at the Boca Raton Marriott supported the Caridad Center’s health and outreach services provided to agricultural workers, other laborers and underserved children and their families.
Dinner and auction guests dined and danced to the upbeat music of “Memory Lane” in a room filled with orchids and brilliantly colored beads.

A highlight of the evening was the honoring of Bill and Sugar Savin McCauley with the first Constance Berry Award for their dedication to the families served at the Caridad Center. The Center is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the year that the doors were opened on the first clinic – a double-wide trailer that five years later evolved into a 7,500 square-foot clinic. The Constance Berry Award honors Center Co-Founder and Board President Connie Berry who, along with Caridad Asensio, saw a need and worked tirelessly to see it filled.

As guests entered they were greeted with glasses of champagne and encouraged to do their holiday shopping among the more than 125 decorative baskets, orchids, sports packages and other items available at the silent auction.
The highlight of the live auction, conducted by auctioneer Neil Saffer, was the lively bidding on two sets of cribs donated by The Silly Goose childrens store in Delray Beach. The cribs were filled with everything a Caridad family would need for a new baby. While the proceeds from the bidders helped Caridad services, two specific needy families received the merchandise. Other hotly contested live auction items included one-week stays in Telluride Mountain Village and in Cape Cod at a restored lighthouse on Nantucket Sound.

Guests and sponsors were thanked by Board President and Co-Founder Connie Berry and Honorary Co-Chairs Rosa and Francis Feeney. Sponsors included Francis and Rosa Feeney, Sanjiv Sharma and Nadine Allen, Clifford and Jill Viner, Bethesda Healthcare System, Delray Medical Center, the Kosinski Family, Bill and Sugar Savin McCauley, Renee Morrison, Warren B. Mosler, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Salzman -Egret Boat Company, Norman and Nita Shapiro, Ron and Kathy Assaf, John and Merrilyn Driscoll, Jim and Sara Ann Kintz, Dave and Leighan Rinker, Luis and Sonia Torres, Jordan and Denise Zimmerman, Barry S. Berg- Bernstein Global Wealth Management, Grant and Mary Clark, Pedro and Marcia del Sol, Jeffrey A. Greenwald – Wealth Advisory Specialist, Northern Trust, Retamar & Millian, P.A., Sachs & Sax, Robert Steinberg, Dr. and Mrs. Jorge Torrejon, and the Wyler family.

Agricultural workers, laborers and others with no place to turn come to the Caridad Center in need of medical or dental help for themselves or their children. Anyone whose income doesn’t exceed 200 percent of the poverty level and who has no medical insurance can come to the Caridad Center for assistance. Some of the families also need emergency assistance at home. An After School Educational Enrichment program is offered to give children extra attention in order that they might succeed at school.
All of these services depend greatly upon the 500 caring volunteers who give of their time and expertise to help make life easier for these hard-working families. For more information call 561-853-1638.
